Targets and EvaluationSetting targets and checking progress is an important way for us to know whether we are doing the right things to close the gap of Indigenous disadvantage. Since 2007 the Territory Government has worked with the Australian Government and other state governments, through the Council of Australian Governments (COAG), to agree on a set of national targets and indicators to close the gap of Indigenous disadvantage. |
It is important for us to work with other governments to close the gap and that is why we have adopted the national targets and indicators as our measurement framework for A Working Future.
The six core targets are:
We will report annually against these targets and indicators. Our report will be on the public record.
In addition to the core targets, we have agreed to a set of indicators across the key COAG building blocks of Early Childhood, Schooling, Health, Economic Participation, Healthy Homes, Safe Communities and Governance and Leadership. We will report on these indicators through the various national partnerships and agreements that we have reached with the Australian Government and other states.
Evaluating our work against the targets is very important and we will engage an independent body to review our progress.
Using this evidence we will strive to continuously improve our performance and work smarter to close the gap.
