Many of our remote towns are built on Aboriginal land.
The Territory Government will work with the land owners in towns to get secure leases for private investment. To be successful at attracting private investment it is critical that security and certainty can be provided to investors.
With secure leases in place, new businesses will be created and new investments will flow. That will mean more jobs and opportunities for local people. It will break the welfare cycle.
We will help local people plan for the future of their local economy. Together with land owners we will establish economic development plans that will provide each town with a map to their economic future.
We will work with local people to attract private investment and we will help grow local businesses.
To provide an incentive to invest, the Territory Government will seek tax support for private investment in remote communities from the Australian Government.
People need to have the skills and confidence to work. We will provide training and development to address skill gaps and make sure that workplaces are supportive places where people continue to learn.
New regional employment hubs will be established in Nhulunbuy and Tennant Creek.
There will be more places for Indigenous people in government jobs and working on government-funded construction and other local projects.
An Indigenous Economic Development Strategy will guide our efforts across the Territory.
